We have direct settlement arrangements with all of the main UK Health Insurance companies although we strongly advise you to check with them in advance of your treatment to ensure that you are covered and to check on whether there is likely to be any shortfall or excess for you to pay.
Outpatient Treatment
Each of our Consultants charges £250 for an initial consultation, at which a full history will be taken and a clinical examination is normally performed. Subsequent consultations cost £150.
Any pathology (eg blood or urine tests) or radiology (eg ultrasound, X-Rays) is charged by the clinic performing the tests and these costs can be quoted at the time we book them. It may well be that your medical insurance policy will include settlement arrangements for these and this can be checked with the company concerned.
Some pharmacy items can be provided by ourselves and will be charged at the time. Otherwise we can provide a private prescription that you can use at any pharmacy, including the private pharmacy within the London Clinic, which will charge you directly. Most medical insurance does not cover pharmacy.
Inpatient Treatment
Should you require surgery then a quote will be provided based on the exact nature of the surgery required. There are two main elements to the costs: the hospital where the surgery is performed charges for use of the operating theatre, accommodation and nursing and the doctors involved charge separately.
If your treatment is covered by health insurance then it is important to get prior authorisation from your insurance company once we know that surgery is required. The hospital can then deal directly with them in respect of their charges. It is sometimes necessary to arrange your surgery at a particular hospital to comply with the terms of individual policies but at least one of the five hospitals at which we operate should be acceptable. Similarly, if your insurance company has preauthorised your surgery then the surgeon and the anaesthetist will bill them directly. We do strongly advise you to check with them whether they will meet these fees in full as you will be responsible for any shortfall.
If you do not have health insurance or the surgery that you require is not covered then we can provide a package price for your treatment so that you know exactly how much it will cost in advance. This would normally consist of a charge to ourselves to cover the surgical and anaesthetic fees together with any necessary prostheses and a separate charge to the hospital. This hospital charge will vary from hospital to hospital and we are more than happy to obtain quotes from any or all of the hospitals that we use. Typically the hospital charge is based on the expected length of stay with an additional daily amount payable should you stay longer.
Payment Terms
Payment is due at the time of treatment and can be by cash, cheque or credit card.
If a UK based insurance company or other third party is paying for your treatment then we are happy to invoice them directly. To do this we require have a letter of guarantee or preauthorisation code without which you will need to settle the charges yourself and claim them back.
